  • FTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) allows carriers operating in multiple states to report and pay fuel taxes with one license and set of decals instead of filing in each state.

  • Carriers must maintain driver qualification files, hours-of-service logs, vehicle maintenance records, inspection reports, drug and alcohol testing records, and proof of insurance. These may be requested during audits.

  • You’ll typically need your USDOT/MC number, business formation documents, vehicle title, lease agreement (if applicable), proof of residency, and mileage records.

  • Processing times vary by state, but with complete documents it usually takes 1–3 weeks to receive credentials and decals.

  • Operating without proper registration can result in heavy fines, vehicle impoundment, and delays at weigh stations or inspections.
