  • All CDL drivers operating commercial vehicles that require a DOT license must be enrolled in a testing program.

  • Tests are required pre-employment, randomly during employment, after accidents, upon reasonable suspicion, and for return-to-duty.

  • DOT tests screen for marijuana, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, and PCP. Alcohol breath tests are also included.

  • The driver must be removed from safety-sensitive duties and complete a return-to-duty process with a certified SAP (Substance Abuse Professional).

  • Random testing is required throughout the year, with specific percentages set annually by FMCSA for both drug and alcohol tests.
